ProPrint has earned the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain-of-Custody certification from the Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood program. This certification reflects on a growing trend among leading paper manufactures, distributors, printing companies and end users desire to make and supply more environmentally and socially responsible printed products.
Why?
Companies that purchase large volumes of paper have become increasingly aware of the impact their buying decisions have on the environment. This consciousness was raised as environmentalists focused on paper mills and the landowners who cultivate the raw materials.
Multiple programs have been established to authenticate that fiber is sourced from responsibly managed forests. Some of these programs are global while other are regional. Some recognize each other’s authenticity and some don’t. But one program dominates; the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification from the Rainforest Alliance’s SmartWood Program.
What is Chain of Custody?
Today, this umbrella of responsibility has expanded to include paper merchants and printers, agencies and independent designers. As a group, we must collectively demonstrate to our clients that we are providing “certified” products so our clients can satisfy their goals for responsible purchasing. This certification is called Chain of Custody.
Chain of Custody is the process of tracking and recording the possession and transfer of wood and fiber from the forests of origin, through the different stages of production, to the end user. In September of 2007, ProPrint became one of only a few printers certified for Chain of Custody in the four state area.
As one of Kansas City’s most successful and highly recognized digital printers we are proud to be a link in the chain that connects paper mills, paper distributors and printers, to provide a large selection of certified products for you, our client.
